.........on Friday the 7th of September, at about 10:15am, I went in for my monthly shot.
They said I would be in and out today.
I had to have a blood test before I went upstairs to the Breast Center to get my injection.
When I got up there, after waiting over an hour, they finally called me in to give me the injection. It was now 11:45am
They weigh me, take my temperature and blood pressure.
I lost 8 pounds!! Yay!! Temp and Blood pressure are good.
Then a nurse comes in and says not to give me the shot until the girls from the Clinical Trial, Kathy and Krystal, call up and say its ok.
So, I wait some more!!
Next thing I know, Kathy and Krystal come into the room I am in and tell me that my liver enzymes are elevated and that I can have the shot but I need to have my blood test re-taken and to have a cat scan of my liver done at 2:30pm. A normal enzyme (Aspartate Aminotransferase) reading is 15-46 u/l and mine was 357 u/l and my Alanine Amino reading was 161 u/l and the normal reading is 11-66 u/l, so I guess they really had a reason for concern! They say that the elevation could be from a bad blood test, the pills I am taking, hepatitis, and some other stuff that I didn't really hear.
"WHAT!!!!" is what I wanted to yell at her!
Here is when the fear comes in. I agree that it is true that once you are a cancer survivor you will always have a fear that it will return, because that is exactly what I am feeling right now!!
So, I get the shot at 12:30pm. I am starving so I go to the cafeteria and get some lunch then I go back downstairs and have my blood re-drawn. (Same arm - same needle hole.)
Then back upstairs to have the ct scan.
They call my name and hand me a bottle of berry flavored barium to drink so that they can get a good picture. It is nasty, tastes like berry flavored CHALK, but I drink it all. Then they call my name and I go with a nurse to have an IV put into my arm so that they can inject the dye into me for the scan. (Again, same arm - same needle hole)
They I am moved again to a room where I lay down and they slide me into the machine to about my waist and then a voice comes over the speaker,
"Take a deep breath............hold it.......................................................BREATHE".
He says it about three times in about a 5 minute period. Then a nurse comes in, takes the IV out of my arm tells me I can go. "Good luck to you and have a nice weekend," she says. "Your Dr. will call you with the results". It is now 3pm, so much for being in and out.
So off I go...........................................
Now to worry and wait..........................
